Chief Nursing Executive

Debbie Zuege, RN is Chief Nursing Executive for Kaiser Permanente in Colorado—the first position of its kind for the state’s largest nonprofit health plan. In this role, Zuege is responsible for the nursing care delivery of more than 2,000 registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants who provide care to the more than 670,000 Kaiser Permanente Colorado members. She is also responsible for the transformation of care delivery, performance improvement, infection prevention and control, emergency management, improving patient and workplace safety and ongoing nursing professional development.

 

Zuege has held several positions with Kaiser Permanente for more than 30 years including her most recent role as Executive Director of Clinical Operations. In this role, she was responsible for more than 3,400 employees while focusing on care delivery for, at the time, 625,000 Kaiser Permanente Colorado members. Prior to her roles at Kaiser Permanente, Zuege held several different clinical roles at Saint Joseph Hospital here in Denver and at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Zuege brings more than 35 years of experience to her new role as Chief Nursing Executive for Kaiser Permanente in Colorado.

 

Zuege’s work in the community includes volunteering at SafeHouse Denver which serves victims of domestic violence and their children through both an emergency shelter and a non-residential Counseling and Advocacy Center. She also currently serves on the board for the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence.

 

Zuege earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Loretto Heights College in Denver and her Master’s of Science from the University of Colorado at Denver. She also graduated from the Executive Leadership Program from Harvard Business School in 2012.
